Last week, I was getting my hair cut when I got the feeling that I should really contact someone. He’d be the perfect partner to help me on a project that I’m working on, and my inner voice was telling me to get in touch with this person right away.
At first, I said to myself, “I’ll do that this afternoon, when I get home, after lunch.” Then, I was honest with myself. That little voice in my head said, “No, you won’t! You’ll forget about it and weeks will go by and you will miss the opportunity.”
Ouch! (How do I know myself so well?)
So I pulled out my iPhone and typed out a quick email asking for a few minutes to chat that afternoon. Low and behold he had the time. That afternoon, we talked about my project. Guess what? He’s going to help me. In fact, during our conversation, he suggested things that I hadn’t thought about and offered to help with that too.
What would have happened if I didn’t take immediate action on my inspiration? You and I both know that nothing would have happened.
Have you ever been inspired to call someone or send someone an email?
Maybe you’ve had an a-ha moment and thought, “That’s a great idea. I should do that.”
What do you do when you have those moments? Do you make that call? Do you pursue that great idea?
Or do you do nothing, like I typically do?
After my experience, I started thinking about what would happen if I thought about a person and then actually made the call or sent the email every time? What if I don’t casually dismiss the ideas that pop into my head and seriously consider what would happen if I really acted on it?
Would my business be different? Would my life change?
These are the questions that led me to the Lenten Challenge: 40 days of obeying to my inner voice.
For those of you who aren’t Catholic, or another Christian denomination that celebrates the season of Lent, yesterday was Ash Wednesday. It marks the beginning of the 40-day period we call Lent, leading up to our celebration of Easter.
Lent is a time of reflection and penance. Many people give up their vices or bad habits during this time, like chocolate, junk food, smoking, alcohol, TV, etc.
I have decided to give up my bad habit of ignoring my inner voice and use my 40 days to launch an experiment.
What if all of the answers that I’ve been praying for were actually given to me through inspired thoughts, but I was simply dismissing them? What if God was telling me to call someone, because He knows that person will help me and I’m ignoring His advice?
So I will start listening my intuition, my 6th sense, whatever you want to call it, for 40 days. Every time I get inspired, I will listen. Every time my inner voice makes a suggestion, I will take some action. I’ll send the email, make the call, or do something.
And then I’ll see where I’m at in 40 days.
I am excited to see where this little journey leads me. I have this strange sense that this is going to be big, maybe even life changing. I will be recording everything in a journal so I can track the progress. I’ll try to keep you updated along the way.
Now I’m off to make a few phone calls and plan a live event.
